Tivoli Systems has announced a Smart Handheld Device Manager which it says will provide deployment management of personal digital assistants (PDAs) via its Enterprise application. PDA penetration is expected to surge from eight million in 1999 to more than 35 million in 2003, according to IDC. The solution lets operations staff manage anything from a mainframe computer to a PDA using the same management paradigm and user interface, company officials said. Functions include server-based synchronisation support, wireless connectivity, support for Windows-powered devices and other functional improvements. Built on an open cross-platform technology, Tivoli said a mix of best of breed platforms and devices can be achieved. It is due for release in Australia on December 22, 2000.
