Dell Computer Corp. on Tuesday announced an initiative with webMethods Inc. aimed at making it easier for companies to engage in business to business (B2B) commerce.
The offer will combine Dell's PowerEdge servers with webMethods' B2B application integration software, in a move that will link a customer's existing ERP (enterprise resource planning) or procurement systems directly with other trading partners.
As part of the offer, which Dell is calling the Rapid Trading Partner Enablement bundle, Dell also hopes to provide online purchasing applications, PowerApp servers and consulting services.
At a press conference in San Francisco, Dell officials described two different bundled offerings:
--the Integration bundle features PowerEdge 2450 or 4450 servers and webMethods' B2B software that integrates ERP, legacy applications, and databases using XML (extensible markup language).
--the E-Procurement bundle includes the above configuration with PowerApp Web servers and an E-Procurement application.
The offer is available initially only in the U.S.http://dell.b2b.com/.
