Microsoft recently unveiled the second beta release of the next version of its FrontPage Web site creation and management software. Currently codenamed FrontPage 10, the software which should appear as a final product in the middle of next year, provides new tools for Web site creation, control and management, according to the software giant.
FrontPage 10 users can create and customise the Photo Gallery feature to display photos and images, Microsoft said in a statement. Users can select different customisable layouts, add captions, reorder and edit images, and switch layouts. Using another feature, the automatic Web content application, they can also insert content and update their Web site without having to edit it.
The software also contains updated site management features to track how visitors use a Web site, which pages get the most hits and how they were referred to it. A top-10 list of the most popular pages on the Web site can be inserted and results viewed according to different criteria, such as most-visited pages, referring domains, referring URLs (uniform resource locators), search strings and visiting users. The list is automatically refreshed when users visit the page.
Some other new features enable users to collaborate together and create Web sites to store, find and share information, documents and Web pages, according to Microsoft. With the SharePoint team-collaboration application, users also can edit content to SharePoint-based Web sites straight from their browsers. They can control the appearance and functioning of their HTML code by reformatting HTML pages, specifying colour-coding tags, indenting tags and a specific number of spaces.
A new pasting feature lets users choose between formatting from the source page, in the existing Web page or as text, when they paste content from other applications.
