US electronic mapping software developer MapInfo has restructured its local senior management team to prepare for a move into the wireless arena in the Asia-Pacific region.
Under the expansion, MapInfo will consolidate its Australian operation with its South East Asian business into one operating unit.
MapInfo Australia MD Richard Lindsay assumes the new role of regional director of sales, Australia and South East Asia. Current vice president of MapInfo Asia Pacific Trevor Westlake takes on the additional post of MD, Australia and SE Asia.
The expansion drove MapInfo to redesign its product development process to launch new solutions for regional clients, particularly for those in Malaysia, Korea and Singapore, Westlake said.
New products include MapInHand, a B2B solution built on Oracle8i to supply sales staff with real-time access to location-based information using handheld devices. MapInfo has also developed MapXtend, a developer's tool for the Java platform enabling organisations to create spatially-enabled applications for accessing location-based data on personal digital assistants (PDAs).
