Smart card systems provider Intellect has extended its dominance in the European market with the signing of a $12 million deal in Austria .
The EPA order has taken the installed base for Intellect systems in Austria beyond 50,000 following the sale of 10,000 of its IPT2000 multi-card terminals in September.
Intellect is the preferred supplier to Austria's EPA which issues Eurocards, MasterCards, Maestro and Cirrus cards as well as private label cards from the banks.
In addition to the IPT2000 systems, EPA is rolling out thousands of Intellect's wireless mobile payment systems for use by Austria's police service and other customers.
The $4 million deal, which is for 3000 of its wireless mobile payment terminals, was announced last week along with a $2.5 million order for payment terminals at 500 Belgium service stations and to equip a further 600 service stations in Croatia.
Intellect's payment systems are also used by the Dutch and Australian railways and the company has also partnered with the French postal service to implement smart card access to thousands of buildings throughout France.
