OK. So maybe movinghome.com.au doesn't have a Beam Me Up, Scotty transporter in place yet. But it covers just about everything else you could possibly need to worry about in your trek to a new place.
The site aims to make the dreaded task of moving house a little less painful for the 1.5 million people that change habitats each year in Australia. Dr Steve Hodgkinson, movinghome.com.au's CEO, summed up the rationale behind the site. "Movinghome.com.au provides home movers with easy access to a comprehensive range of essential moving-related services and tools at the one address available any time of the day or night. It's the sort of service the Australian market has been desperately seeking for some time. It's moving made easy," he said.
At present, the site assists registered users in acquiring a number of services to help them with their move. Some of these include changing their address, arranging insurance, disconnecting and connecting utilities, hiring a removalist or truck, and arranging storage. Other services being planned for the near future include home services such as cleaners and gardeners, trailer and mini-skip hire, purchase of packing materials, furniture and appliance purchase and rentals, renovations, painting and landscaping, and even pet transport.
In the process of creating the site, movinghome.com.au has forged links with more than 30 suppliers, including AAPT, Associated Marine Insurers, Delta Rentals, f2 Interactive Network, Grace Removals, Kennards Self Storage and Mortgage Choice.
Hodgkinson prophesied the impact of the site: "Movinghome.com.au will change the way people move in the future by using the power of the internet to help them better manage the many different aspects of their move."
