Tasman Networks Inc., a manufacturer of high-bandwidth routers based in San Jose, California, has set up a development center in Bangalore.
The new center may provide the foundation for outsourcing non-engineering activities to India, including technical support, telemarketing and major account sales, according to Paul Smith, chief executive officer of the company.
Tasman is the latest in a line of networking equipment companies to set up development centers in Bangalore. Cisco Systems Inc., also of San Jose, and Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. of Shenzhen, China, both have centers in Bangalore and outsource product development to Indian companies.
Privately held Tasman is a provider of high performance mid-range and branch-office routers for the edge of the network. Adding development operations in India will allow Tasman to work around the clock, accelerating product development and interoperability testing, company sources said.
