Setting its sights on departments within large organisations as well as small-to-medium companies, Hewlett-Packard has introduced the HP SureStore AutoBackup advanced backup and disaster recovery software.
Integrated into a thin-server appliance, the disaster recovery software lets customers back up business data stored on PC hard drives while enabling IT departments to reduce spent on recovery time after PC data problems.
The software provides automatic data and disaster protection and disaster recovery for laptop and desktop PCs and 24-hour instant access to backups anywhere in the world, according to HP.
The software protects any PC clients running Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0+ Workstation or 2000 Pro and runs on Windows for Express Networks.
If files are damaged or deleted, users can restore using drag-and-drop from AutoBackup 'network drive' and the disaster recovery tool, HP CD writer.
The first two products in the software family are the PC25 and the PC100. The PC25 is for between 10 and 25 users. The PC25 stores up to 60Gbytes of client data. The PC100 is designed to protect up to 100 client machines and stores up to 240Gbytes of client data.
The software runs on any network supporting TCP/IP protocol; 10/100Base-T is directly supported, and other infrastructures require a bridge to support the appliance.
The HP SureStore AutoBackup PC25 and PC100 products will be available from July 1.
Pricing starts at $7000 for PC25 users and $16,000 for PC100 users.
