Di Data trims 25 staff

IT services company Dimension Data has retrenched 25 staff from its NSW and Victorian operations.

A spokesperson for the company said the cuts were made as management evaluated the resources necessary to meet customer requirements in Dimension Data’s next fiscal year, which begins in October.

The cuts represent about 4 per cent of Dimension Data’s 600 Australian staff.

Of the 25 retrenched staff, 18 were from Dimension Data’s NSW office. All of the staff were involved with the provision of what the company terms “entry-level deployment services”.

By this, the company means the roll-out of standard operating environments and other relatively simple software technology.

The spokesperson said that while Dimension Data was still being contracted to engineer, design and integrate such software, the physical implementation at the customer’s site wass often fulfilled internally by the customer’s in-house IT staff or by third party consultants.

Dimension Data found that it no longer required the services of those staff that rolled out these “repeatable” implementations.

“We are still recruiting in the high-end engineering and consulting fields,” the spokesperson said.
