Zurich Financial Services Australia has appointed Glen Hickey as its new CIO to steer the organisation's IT strategy and also help manage future growth of the company's three core businesses: general insurance, life risk and investment products.
Hickey's appointment came after a long search for a candidate with experience deep enough "to meet the significant business and IT challenges ahead of the financial services industry in Australia now" and in the future, chief executive John Butler said.
Hickey has broad business skills, financial services expertise and a track record of implementing new technology and managing software developments.
As CIO, Hickey will also assume director roles on a number of boards within some of Zurich's subsidiaries.
Previously, Hickey was director of investments at Australian online mortgage broker eChoice, which he joined in 2001. He also set up a joint venture with local insurance broking company OAMPS to re-engineer eChoice's financial planning capability.
Before joining eChoice, Hickey was Adelaide Bank's general manager of corporate services from 1999 to 2000 and was responsible for the bank's IT initiatives.
Hickey holds a PhD from Yale University PhD and is also a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Banking and an Associate of the Securities Institute of Australia.
