Wesfarmers CSBP has extended its IT outsourcing contract with KAZ Group for another four years, widening the scope of the contract until June 2007.
Originally a three-year multimillion outsourcing deal with KAZ which began in April 2001, the initial agreement covered IT facilities management, project management, help desk services, desktop and server support and disaster recovery planning.
New services will include 24x7 operations support for mission-critical infrastructure and applications, telephony call monitoring and automated change and service level escalation management services.
The new contract is worth more than $2 million, KAZ technology services' regional manager for Western Australia, Lagis Zavros, told Computerworld.
The Perth-based industrial chemical manufacturer's infrastructure information services manager, Doug McLennan, said that from the outset, outsourcing the company's IT operations was a strategic decision which enabled Wesfarmers to focus on its core business needs, lower its IT operating cost and build a better IT service delivery model for the organisation.
Meanwhile, Wesfarmers has retained its IT infrastructure and support team of around 11. By continuing to outsource the bulk of its infrastructure and IT operations support, IT is able focus on analysing the business' needs as opposed to IT maintenance or repair, Zavros said.
