Quantum reshuffles ranks

Data storage and back-up vendor, Quantum, has imported a new managing director for the Asia Pacific region and committed more resources to its new enhanced data protection (disk to disk back-up) business.

Emil Kobylarz has been named as managing director for the Asia Pacific region’s SSG business, that is amde up of Quantum’s automation and enhanced data protection products.

The move has seen Simon Harvey, formerly regional director for the region, step back into a specialised marketing role around the vendor’s disk-to-disk business.

Quantum’s DLT (tape) business had no representation in Australia as its products were generally sold via OEM agreements with large vendors, Kobylarz said. This business was managed by Alex Tan in Singapore.

Kobylarz has spent the last few years at Quantum focusing on international OEM sales.

He said that he had a ‘learning curve’ ahead of him with regards to the Australian market, but he did not expect any hiccups.

Harvey on the other hand, would focus on business development for Quantum’s new range of disk-to-disk products, currently being sold through large VARs, Commander and SecureData.

“Over the last 12 months we have spent a lot of resources on our volume business to the detriment of our high-touch business,” Kobylarz said. “Simon’s new role will provide additional sales focus to our premiere partners in generating, bidding and closing opportunities. He has been charged with rebuilding our enterprise business.”
