Council takes e-business route

In a deal worth half a million dollars, the City of Ballarat Council has replaced its Oracle financials with an e-business system from AXS-One.

Scheduled to be operational by July 1, 2003, Ballarat is the 14th council in Victoria to implement the AXS-One Financial Suite.

The council's finance director Alan Hall said the choice was between upgrading its current Oracle financial system or undertaking a complete replacement after evaluating bids from six suppliers.

Hall said ASX-One was selected for functionality to improve processes and the flexible reporting and chart of accounts.

"Also I was impressed by how well ASX-One knew their product; the project also includes some hardware replacement," he said.

Up to 70 users will complete training for the new system particularly in the area of e-procurement as Hall said there are a number of 'super users' within the council that undertake high-volume purchasing.

He said the new system brings together all council information from any system regardless of vendor or platform into a common portal for analysis, reporting and management information. It also has archival and content management features.
