Qantas is reviewing its IT operations with plans to outsource its Sydney data centre in coming months to a service provider.
Qantas chief information officer Fiona Balfour said the review was likely to take at least a year, but was necessary because, "... we have reached the conclusion that our current infrastructure and equipment no longer meet our continually growing IT needs.
"We have therefore begun looking at possible alternative arrangements for the future.
"These include outsourcing data centre operations to experienced service providers who can acquire and manage the delivery of these services on our behalf," she said.
The centre provides a wide range of information technology and systems, backup services, and employs 230 staff.
A Qantas spokesman, however, said no jobs are under threat as those who are not offered employment with the outsourcing provider will be redeployed within Qantas.
