Hasso Plattner will step down from his role as SAP AG's co-chief executive officer (CEO), a move approved by the company's supervisory board at a meeting Thursday, an SAP spokeswoman confirmed.
The supervisory board agreed to appoint Plattner as its new chairman, replacing Dietmar Hopp, said spokeswoman Laurie Doyle-Kelly.
The supervisory board will propose its decision to shareholders at the group's annual general meeting on May 9, according to Doyle-Kelly. "They must vote on and approve this appointment," she said.
Henning Kagermann will take over as the sole CEO. "There will be no other management changes," Doyle-Kelly said.
Plattner, 59 years old, helped found SAP more than 30 years ago and is closely identified with the Walldorf, Germany, enterprise software company.
