Flamenco Networks Inc. is preparing to release an upgrade to its Web services management system featuring support for the OASIS WS-Security specification.
The new version of the Flamenco Web Services Management (WSM), code-named Monroe, is scheduled to go into beta release in April with general availability planned for June. Flamenco's product is available either as a managed service or as packaged software.
WS-Security is gathering industry support as a mechanism to provide for secure Web services. The specification was published by IBM Corp., Microsoft Corp., and VeriSign Inc. a year ago.
Additionally, the Flamenco release will support a one-sided proxy function, in which a Web service can feature a zero-download at the client, so the client will not need any specific intelligence to handle the Web service, said Michael Mitrowksi, director of sales at Flamenco, in Alpharetta, Ga.
Also featured in Monroe is integration with third-party system management tools such as LDAP systems, IBM Corp.'s Tivoli, or Hewlett-Packard Co.'s HP OpenView. "Web services can be incorporated within the total enterprise," in terms of management, Mitrowski said.
The product also will support the IBM HTTPR protocol, or Reliable HTTP, for guaranteed delivery of HTTP packets between server and client, Mitrowski said.
