Microsoft is preparing new "standard editions" of its Great Plains, Navision and Solomon products to streamline its offerings for companies with up to 100 employees.
The new basic versions of the software, due out later this year, replace existing entry-level products including Great Plains Standard Edition and Navision Standard Edition, a Microsoft Business Solutions spokeswoman in Europe said Tuesday.
"Microsoft Business Solutions is streamlining its lower midmarket offerings by introducing unified pricing, packaging, marketing and branding," the spokeswoman said.
Great Plains and Navision are software companies that were acquired by Microsoft in the past years as part of the company's move to enter the enterprise software market. Microsoft had talked about standardizing packaging and pricing of the applications at its global partner conference in September last year, two months after it completed the Navision buy.
The standard editions are aimed at companies with up to 100 employees, under US$25 million in revenue and less than 10 licensed users, the Microsoft spokeswoman said. The applications are meant to help companies manage finances, customer relationships and inventories.
"Microsoft knows that there is a large segment of the market, namely the lower end of the midmarket, that remains underserved by ERP (enterprise resource planning) solution providers due to price points and complex functionality," the Microsoft spokeswoman said.
