Dell Technology to Deliver Ironman Triathlon Results Worldwide, Real Time

<p>Organisers Enlist Dell Handhelds, Workstations, Servers To Track 1,600 International Triathletes As They Swim, Bike, Run 140.6 Miles</p>
<p>SYDNEY, October 13, 2003 - From the shores of Kailua Bay to the picturesque finish on Alii Drive, Dell technology will deliver Ironman Triathlon results to an Internet audience beginning with the world championship that takes place every year in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.</p>
<p>Event organisers will be outfitted with Dell handheld computers, workstations and servers to feed the information through Ironmanlive.com for the October 18 competition in Hawaii, and for more than 10 qualifying and world championship events in 2003 and 2004.</p>
<p>For the Hawaii championships, 1,600 triathletes from nearly 50 countries will compete in a 2.4-mile ocean swim, 112-mile bike ride and 26.2-mile run. Ironmanlive.com is the only outlet that broadcasts the world's most challenging endurance event in real time.</p>
<p>"Dell's mobile and enterprise technology will help our team deliver one of the world's largest sporting events streamed over the Internet," said Ben Fertic, vice president of information systems for the Ironman Triathlon. "Split times, streaming video, still photography are but a few of the features fans can expect to see on the Web site."</p>

* Dell Axim wireless-enabled handhelds for spectators to access racer split times from Dell volunteers at a help booth, and for emergency medical teams to access athlete information;
* Dell PowerEdge servers to stream data on Ironmanlive.com Web site via Rackspace.com;
* Dell Latitude D600 notebook computers for press booth; and
* Dell OptiPlex desktops for Ironman Internet Café for athletes and spectators to communicate with friends and family.</p>
