Tibco Software Inc.'s new BusinessFactor operational performance monitoring software will be released this week and is based on technology it picked up in September through its Praja Inc. acquisition.
BusinessFactor 4.0 tracks business operations, events and trends. Aimed at managers, the software aggregates real-time data from other business applications and offers visual representations of the information, in forms such as maps, blueprints and charts. Customers, traditionally large enterprises, include organizations in industries such as health care, manufacturing, retail, financial services, government and telecommunication, according to Tibco, located in Palo Alto, California.
The new version of BusinessFactor updates Praja's technology with features based on other software from Tibco's portfolio, said Scott Fingerhut, a senior product marketing manager at Tibco. New tools for collaboration, data aggregation and data-mapping have been added to BusinessFactor, he said.
The software differs from traditional "business intelligence" applications in that its focus is on performance tracking, not analytics, Fingerhut said.
"This is not business process monitoring. It's not saying, 'What process information do you want to see?' It's, 'What key performance indicators do you want to see'," he said.
Sample uses include tracking call-center indicators such as the volume and average duration of calls, or recording statistics on emergency-room patient traffic.
Business Factor 4.0 will be released this week in North America, Europe and Asia. Pricing varies widely based on configuration, but generally starts at about US$300,000, Fingerhut said.
