More than a thousand new IT and telecommunications jobs were advertised in the last month, according to the latest Olivier Internet Job Index.
In the "first positive news for 18 months for computer professionals", Robert Olivier, a director of the Olivier Recruitment Group said jobs advertised in the "embattled IT&T sector jumped by 20.7 per cent -- with more than a thousand new jobs advertised in the month".
Overall, Olivier said the Job Index for February shows a rebound for the Australian economy, with a 22.3 per cent rise in the number of Australian jobs (all industries) advertised on the Internet in February -- an increase of 11, 212 on January.
"All 21 surveyed sectors rose. All gained more than 10 per cent, and 14 sectors enjoyed more than 20 per cent growth. All states experienced growth, although most new jobs were in NSW and Victoria," Olivier said.
However, Olivier said there has been a 24.9 per cent decline in the number of IT&T jobs advertised over the last 12 months.
This month's Olivier Internet Job Index figures don't mean there will be an immediate effect on employment numbers, "but they signal a positive impact over the next three months", Olivier said
