PPC-1 cable back online

Services restored on 10 March

TPG's PPC-1 submarine cable system is back online.

The 7000km cable connects Sydney and Guam.

PPC-1 suffered a major fault some 4590 kilometres from Guam on 5 February, taking down the entire system.

The cable system is now completely operational, with all services confirmed repaired by 9.40am AEDT on 10 March, according to a TPG spokesperson.

The repair was delayed due to TPG needing to source an alternative cable ship, with its contracted repair vessel — the Ile De Re — undertaking work on the Basslink electricity cable that stretches from Tasmania to the mainland.

During the outage TPG routed traffic via Southern Cross and the Australian Japan Cable system.
