Identity management sparks new Sun appointment

Sun Microsystems has appointed Colin Weir as the new software practice client solutions director for Australia and New Zealand.

Weir's new role is to drive identity management solutions to help local companies cut cost and complexity, gain competitive advantage and meet the challenges of regulatory compliance.

He will also be responsible for Sun's Data Centre, Java Web services and desktop and mobility solutions.

Weir believes that the recently formed Sun client solutions practice has brought together specific expertise within its technical and professional services teams.

"Our dedicated identity management practice streamlines and simplifies management of user identities across all customer computing infrastructures and application environments," Weir said.

"We are seeing significant customer demand for identity management and are keen to demystify the solution to help deliver definitive cost and performance benefits."

Formerly CEO of SimStore and the Asia Pacific financial industry sales manager for Sun, Weir has more than 15 years international IT and financial services experience.
