The NSW government expects to save $20 million a year through outsourcing a range of IT services to Unisys and Infosys.
The government today announced it had signed contracts to outsource IT services currently provided by shared services agency ServiceFirst.
In December, the government said it had established a memorandum of understanding with Unisys and Infosys to explore the potential for the companies taking over backoffice ICT services delivered by ServiceFirst.
A number of NSW departments and agencies currently receive shared services through ServiceFirst, including the Department of Finance, Services and Innovation, the Department of Premier and Cabinet, the Department of Planning and Environment, the Treasury, Service NSW and the Public Service Commission.
More agencies will potentially join the outsourcing arrangements, according to the NSW government.
"The hard working ServiceFirst staff have done a terrific job in a difficult environment of making legacy systems and processes work for the agencies they support," NSW finance minister Dominic Perrottet said in a statement.
"But this model is inefficient, expensive, based on outdated technology and designed for a 9 to 5 world which no longer exists. This is causing our staff frustration and costing taxpayers money."
The government today revealed it had signed six-year contracts with Unisys and Infosys.
Unisys will deliver support for mobile devices (including BYOD), laptops and desktops, IT infrastructure including servers, storage, networking and data centres and IT service management.
Infosys will manage the entire business processes of payroll, HR and financial services.
ERP systems will be consolidated and shifted to a cloud platform.
IT services will shift to a consumption-based delivery model.
A delivery centre will be established in Western Sydney to implement the new arrangements.
Initially the company will manage ServiceFirst's existing environment then undertake a transformation program that will see a shift to Unisys-owned hardware operating out of the government's GovDC data centres.
"Public servants will be the beneficiaries of this announcement as they will now have access to the technology tools of today to enable them to work smarter," Perrottet said.
"We can now focus on our transformation agenda while leaving back office processes to the experts."
