Oracle offers easy 10g deployment for SMBs

Oracle says that it is taking aim at small and medium-sized business customers by offering training, quick deployment and management enhancements with its 10g database software, due out later this year.

The company introduced the enhancements at the OracleWorld show in Paris Tuesday, saying that features will make it easier for small business customers to manage and administer the database software.

Oracle Database10g will have new self-management capabilities that will allow users to automatically identify performance problems and perform backup and recovery, the company said in a statement. Automatic storage management will also be available, allowing users to manage files and distribute storage loads.

The company hopes to lure small and medium-sized customers with a new deployment option, offering a single processor version of the database software, dubbed Oracle Standard Edition One, for US$5,995 per processor or $195 per user with a minimum of five users.

Users can install the software via a single, 17-minute CD, Oracle said, and the company is offering two-day training courses on basic administration, tuning and security concepts.

Oracle Database 10g is due out later this year, with support for HP-UX, Linux, Mac OS, Windows and Solaris platforms.
