3Com is embarking on an aggressive supply chain makeover and e-commerce revenue push, but don't hold your breath, there will not be any direct price cuts.
Bruce Claflin, the company's president and chief operating officer boldly claimed 3Com plans to generate up to 80 per cent of its revenue from online sales, up from the existing figure of 30 per cent.
According to Gerhard Rumpff, 3Com Australia's managing director, the strategy is best described as a "way of streamlining the whole supply chain".
The company is scheduled to bring a new SAP-based logistics system online in March to complete the total integration of the company's US Robotics and 3Com product lines.
However, he said users will not receive any direct price cuts above 3Com's existing pricing strategies, despite conceding it will introduce efficiencies.
"Undoubtedly we will be able to reduce cost to 3Com and pass that on to the end user," he said.
