Perth residents have suffered from two separate Internet outages this week.
A repair ship is still addressing a fault in the submarine cable connecting Perth and Singapore that was identified on Sunday, according to an iiNet spokesman. The cable is part of SEA-ME-WE-3.
The ship arrived Monday at the location of the fault, but there is not yet an estimate on when the matter will be resolved, iiNet said in a fault notice posted to its website on Monday.
“Some customers may notice slower than expected speeds, latency and packet-loss to international destinations in Asia. This may result in webpages taking longer to load, as well as impact to time-senstive [sic] activities such as online gaming.”
The SEA-ME-WE 3 undersea cable between Perth and Singapore was previously cut in January 2013.
Separately, Telstra has reported an unplanned outage for some of its ADSL services in Perth. This outage also began over the weekend, but is not related to the submarine cable outage.
Telstra has estimated the problem will be repaired by tomorrow evening.
“We are aware of an issue impacting a number of services in and around Perth,” a Telstra spokesperson said.
“We apologise for the inconvenience and assure customers our technical teams are doing what they can to restore services.”
Telstra, iiNet and other operators suffered outages last week after a severe storm in Queensland dumped 70mm of rain and palm-sized hail on the state, knocking out the power in many areas.
