Vodafone has switched on its new "4G+" LTE-Advanced network in Melbourne. The telco announced today it had switched on 478 new 4G+ sites in Victoria. Another 71 sites in the state will be switched on over the next month and a half.
"Customers will immediately notice the difference right across the city following the mass switch on of new 4G+ coverage today," Vodafone's CTO, Benoit Hanssen, said in a statement.
Vodafone in July announced it would refarm its 850MHz spectrum to boost its 4G coverage. Vodafone previously only delivered 4G services using spectrum in the 1800MHz band.
LTE Advanced allows carrier aggregation: Delivering improved data throughput for mobile devices by using multiple bands of spectrum.
Telstra has used "4GX" to describe its aggregation of spectrum in the 1800MHz and 700MHz bands.
