American Express customer service operators had to turn away customers with specific account related enquiries today due to ongoing "systems difficulties".
Customer service staff were unable to view corporate and personal account information between 2:30pm to 4:00pm.
Earlier this afternoon, a spokeswoman from public affairs told Computerworld that while the American Express IT team were frantically working to solve the problem, no resolution time had been set, which meant the problem could have continued into tomorrow.
Unable to confirm the exact cause, the public affairs spokeswoman said there was initially a problem with one server, which then had a knock-on effect to other customer service areas.
The spokeswoman said that the systems difficulties did not affect the use of American Express credit cards and that customers were still able to check their accounts on the Internet.
