Only months after leaving Westpac as CIO and a brief stint heading up Meta Group's Executive Directions corporate mentoring program, Mary Ann Maxwell has secured the top regional job at the analyst firm.
Maxwell replaces Paul Ventura, who will, according to Meta, be leaving "to spend more time with his family", with a handover period of 30 days effective immediately.
The former Westpac CIO has been given a brief to expand Meta's Asia-Pacific operations in what analyst insiders regard as a smart move that could open C-level doors in one of the toughest climates for 10 years.
Former Gartner analyst and now media proprietor Mark Hollands said Maxwell's previous experience as a consumer of analyst products would equip her well to both drive sales and deliver better value to customers.
"There's a difference between buying and using services, and [Maxwell] has been a keen user of analyst services," Hollands said.
Meta Group's global CIO Fred Amoroso has also issued his blessing, saying that, "With more than 30 years industry experience, Mary Ann combines a powerful blend of technical, management, and people skills and has been widely recognised by her peers, the press, and analysts as an outstanding IT executive, who is skilled at driving change."
