The number of information technology and telecommunications (IT&T) jobs advertised online has remained virtually unchanged over the past month, according to the results of a national jobs survey.
The Olivier Recruitment Internet Jobs Index for October reported the number of jobs advertised online which related to the IT&T sector decreased by 1.54 per cent from those recorded by the survey in September.
This drop contrasted to an 8.9 per cent rise in the number of jobs advertised for IT&T professionals between August and September.
Of the IT&T jobs advertised, software development and engineering accounted for 28.53 per cent. Other popular IT&T positions advertised were management and sales (24.68 per cent), and networks, communications and security with 12.34 per cent. Hardware engineering systems came in as the least popular IT&T category with 1.57 per cent.
Overall, the IT&T sector ranked fourth for job advertising in October, contributing just over 7 per cent of the total number of positions advertised. Once the most dominant industry sector for online advertising, IT&T now trails behind trades and services (19.41 per cent), sales, marketing and customer service (13.1 per cent) and accounting (11.67 per cent).
The Olivier Internet Job Index is conducted monthly. October figures were derived from a survey of 105,371 advertisments featured on Australian commercial job sites.
