IBM wins Frost & Sullivan Technology Award

 • 27 May, 2004 14:29

Singapore, 27 May 2004 – IBM Global Services today received the Asia Pacific Managed Services Provider of the Year Award from global Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) analyst firm, Frost & Sullivan. IBM was presented this award for growing its managed services revenues significantly across the Asia Pacific geography in 2003.

The award is a part of the “Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific Technology Awards 2004”, where the inaugural event recognises the outstanding performance by ICT companies in the Asia Pacific region. The winners of the awards were determined by Frost & Sullivan’s continuous research on Asia Pacific telecoms industry and the deliberations of a panel of judges constituting senior analysts, media and executives from telecom vendors and service providers. The judging criteria are based on market share growth, revenue growth, and product and service innovations for 2003. A total of 24 awards will be given out.

The specific parameters measured to determine the Asia Pacific Managed Services Provider of the year award include major contracts won, leadership in product and services innovation and delivery, and breadth of solutions.

According to Frost & Sullivan, managed services are defined as outsourcing and networking services.

Manoj Menon, Partner of Frost & Sullivan said: “IBM Global Services stands out as an undisputed market leader in this space and the company has transformed the professional services market with its leadership in service innovation and delivery.”

“Given IBM’s broad services portfolio and on demand strategy, it has helped transform enterprises to respond rapidly to market changes and exceeded client requirements across the region. IBM’s major wins in Asia Pacific in 2003 also indicates strong client and industry confidence in the company’s ability to execute and provide value in this area of business.”

An example is Korean Airlines, IBM was contracted to shift the airline’s international IT networks to new Internet-based technologies to increase efficiency and improve customer service. The IT services contract was designed to give Korean Airlines more flexibility to focus on its core competency: the operation of one of the world’s leading airlines.

“IBM Global Services has had more than 14 years of large-scale, practical, services experience. We have an un-matched end-to-end capability to assist customers in transforming and growing their business,” said Tim Shaughnessy, General Manager, IBM Global Services Asia Pacific.

“We are committed to providing real business benefits and outcomes to our clients and we’re thrilled that Frost & Sullivan has recognised our success in achieving this.”
