Westpac appoints group executive, e-IT and Operations

Westpac Banking Corporation has appointed Michael Coomer as group executive, e-IT and Operations.

As part of his new role to commence at the end of January, Coomer will have overall responsibility for IT, e-Business outsourcing governance and all back-office operations and support.

Westpac's CEO, Dr David Morgan said Coomer's appointment will bring depth to Westpac's continued focus on the outsourcing of non-core activity.

"Michael has a breadth of experience that will strengthen out focus on Information Technology, e-Business and customer service through out back-office systems efficiency."

Coomer brings more than six years of information systems experience and financial services experience to Westpac.

His previous job was with the National Australia Bank (NAB) as executive general manager corporate and e-Business strategy. He has also been a director of IT at public company Adacol as well as being on the advisory board for the JBWere Private Equity Fund.

Prior to joining NAB in 1995, Coomer held positions with IBM Global Services, Ansett Transport Industries and Rockwell International.
