Vic McClelland has been hired as Optus Networks’ new managing director to manage the strategic investment in mobile infrastructure and the day-to-day running of fixed, mobile and satellite networks.
He replaces Guenther Ottendorfer who is returning to Austria to take up the role of CTO at Telekom Austria Group. Ottendorfer had been managing director since January 2011.
McClelland will report to Optus Australia consumer CEO Kevin Russell.

McClelland is currently Ericsson’s vice president of technology strategy for Internet services in Silicon Valley. Before moving to the United States, he was head of technology strategy and planning at Vodafone Hutchison Australia.
According to McClelland, he is keen to “get started” on the next phase of rolling out Optus’ 4G network.
He will return to Australia to join the company on 4 November 2013.
