DrayTek and Kaspersky Lab Join Forces for UTM: DrayTek VigorPro 5500 UTM

 • 21 March, 2007 16:00

New features to propel appliance to top of UTM class

Digital Data Comms Australia, today releases a Unified Threat Management (UTM) appliance, DrayTek VigorPro 5500, which is a Dual-WAN Security Router bundled with Kaspersky® SafeStream Anti-Virus software to provide advanced anti-virus capabilities for small and medium businesses (SMBs) and corporate.

For SMBs that do not have dedicated IT staff, VigorPro 5500 provides an effective security package. This appliance stops viruses at the router before they reach individual PC/NB ends, and provides protection from malware, web filtering, and so on both from inside and outside networks.

Vitaly Bezrodnykh, Business Development Director at Kaspersky Lab, says: "We are confident that our long-term partnership with DrayTek will be a mutually beneficial one. From an SMB's perspective, it will benefit greatly from the DrayTek VigorPro 5500 UTM appliance as it will address all their security needs - and they have the added peace of mind that the Kaspersky SafeStream anti-virus component is second to none."

Comments Donald Lin, Vice President of DrayTek Corp (Taiwan Stock Ex.: 6216) : "VigorPro 5500 UTM integrates gateway anti-virus and anti-intrusion technology with versatile 'anti-X' security functions, providing great system performance. The integration of Kaspersky SafeStream assures users that they are being protected by anti-virus technology that features world-leading response times to the most active malicious threats."

DrayTek VigorPro 5500 performs Layer 7 packet inspection, meaning it checks all incoming data packets against patterns or protocols that are stored in its signature-based Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) program. This is how the appliance blocks viruses, worms, VoIP threats, Trojans, or any other malware hidden inside multiple packets.

In order to provide the inline inspection without reducing system performance, VigorPro 5500 implements unique Multi-Stack Stateful Inspection (MSSI) scanning technology together with hardware-accelerated scan engine.

The Dual-WAN capability means that the users can have 2 separate Internet accesses and can stack the capacity up (Load Balancing) or use one as a backup if the other access fails (Failover).

Equipped with a powerful Intel CPU, DrayTek VigorPro 5500 provides network protection and handles traffic for complex corporate network infrastructures with multi-sites through up to 200 Virtual Private Network (VPN) tunnels.
