The Australian Communications Authority has confirmed the auction of 800 MHz spectrum licences will be held on Thursday, 22 February 2001.
AAPT and Telstra registered for the auction earlier this month.
The auction will be held in Canberra with the applicants bidding for 2x5MHz of spectrum in two lots, each 2x2.5MHz covering all areas of regional and remote Australia.
The 800 MHz spectrum will increase the options for the two carriers to deliver additional mobile services, including 3G services, to all regional and remote areas of Australia. The bulk of the band was auctioned in 1988.
