Austar takes up Chello's net operations

European broadband group Chello has ceded control of its Australian operations to Austar United Communications.

Chello Broadband, Europe's largest broadband Internet company, said in a statement that to reduce duplication and to take advantage of Austar's capacity on the Southern Cross Cable, operational responsibility for the company's network configuration and marketing operations in Australia would be transferred.

Content and portal developments from Chello will still be made available to Austar.

Chello and Austar announced their partnership in March last year, revealing plans to make a high-speed broadband Internet service available to more than two million households in regional and rural Australia.
