SOFIA (01/27/2000) - The Bulgarian National History Museum (NHM) on Jan. 20 launched a Web site that can be reached at http://www.historymuseum.com. It will soon be linked to other Web sites for museums worldwide.
The English-language NHM site was the result of several months of development work by startup company NetAge Inc. (http://www.netagedesign.com) with the cooperation of NHM's IT specialists.
Behind the attractive interface of the state-of-the-art site is a major database and the site also employs advanced multimedia applications.
The launch of the Web site marks NHM's first step into the 21st century, according to Ilya Prokopov, the director of the museum. Its target audience is the international community of historians and researchers. NetAge management describes the site as the most serious attempt to present a Bulgarian museum on the Web to date.
The project cost around US$7,000, most of which came from outside sources with the museum itself needing to put up only around one-seventh of the total funds needed.
