Sun Microsystems formed an Asia-Pacific alliance with Tokyo-based application and systems management solution provider Swan SA this week to develop hardware and software solutions for network management.
Under the deal, Sun will enhance its network computing hardware and software lines by incorporating Swan's application and systems management solution Vision64.
The solution is Swan's "fourth generation" desktop and management tool which provides automated distribution, backup and recovery, remote user management and software application management. The product can scale from a 500-seat network up to a large corporate environment.
Gabriel Chan, Sun Microsystems Asia Pacific director of sales, said the alliance will allow Sun to offer a total package to organisations looking to streamline business processes and boost productivity.
Specifically, the companies said they will target the application and Internet service providers market with Swan's multicast functionalities. "We'll be providing ASP and ISP solutions [by] enabling high-speed content delivery and integrity to thousands on non-permanently connected systems," Chan said.
Executives were not available to comment on the value of the deal before press time.
Swan specialises in active application and business level management solutions. The company's global clients include FedEx Group, Air France, Ford Motor Company, Bank of America and Johnson & Johnson.
