Wesfarmers names Kaz in $2m services deal

Kaz Computers has scored a $2 million managed IT services contract with Wesfarmers CSBP Limited.

CSBP, a division of WA-based Wesfarmers, is reportedly the western seaboard's largest agricultural fertiliser and industrial chemical supplier for the farming and mining sectors.

Under the deal, signed for three years, Kaz ill provide IT operations and technical support to the company.

Specifically, Kaz will take charge of helpdesk and desktop support, LAN, WAN and servers in an AS/400, NT, Novell and Unix environment, Kaz sources said.

Wesfarmers CSBP team leader for information business systems, computer operations, Doug McClennan, said the company may also draw on the outsourcer's systems integration, project management or solutions implementation capabilities "where needed", but retain its core IT infrastructure and integration team of 11.

Three Kaz support technicians will man the Kaz helpdesk at Wesfarmers CSBP, he added.

According to McClennan, the company chose to contract its IT operations to Kaz as the it offered a more commercially attractive proposition against several outsourcing competitors, which he declined to name.
