Sun names executive VP of worldwide operations

Sun Microsystems Inc. has promoted Marissa Peterson to the newly created rank of executive vice president of worldwide operations, the company announced Tuesday. In her new role, she will report directly to Sun President and Chief Operating Officer Ed Zander and will join the vendor's executive management group.

Peterson, who has served as vice president of worldwide operations at Sun since 1998, becomes the highest ranking woman at Sun, a spokesman for the company said. She will be in charge of purchasing, supplier and supply chain management, manufacturing and logistics programs worldwide.

Formerly with Booz, Allen & Hamilton Inc. and Saturn Corp., Peterson joined Sun in 1988 and previously held the positions of vice president of worldwide logistics and customer quality and director of manufacturing at the company.
