BOSTON (05/17/2000) - Tower Technology Corp. has released the latest version of its high-performance JVM for a range operating systems, including Windows NT and Linux.
The software, called TowerJ Release 3.5, supports the features and APIs of the Java 2 specification. Some customers are reporting that their Java 2 code runs from 200 percent to 500 percent faster with the new release, according to the Austin, Texas company.
The Java Virtual Machine is a program that runs Java code on a given operating system. This new release is available on Sun Solaris, HP/UX, Linux, Tru64 Unix and NT platforms with others to be released later. Java 2 is the latest version of the Java APIs, and is being widely embraced as the basis for the next generation of server-based Java programs, especially in e-business applications.
For this release, Tower added a new level of security in what the company calls "Mixed-Mode" deployment, which lets customers deploy a Java application that can't be modified while it's in production. The application can consist of Java byte-code and unchangeable, precompiled native code that can be sealed off for higher protection.
TowerJ 3.5 is currently available directly from Tower and its distributors.
Tower offers a free, 15-day evaluation of TowerJ 3.5, with full technical support to qualified organizations.
Unlimited use TowerJ Performance Improvement Kits start at $6,000 per server.
TowerJ server runtime only licenses are priced based on type and configuration of server platform.
