Toshiba says Australia web hack caused no harm

Toshiba (Australia) Pty Ltd. assured customers on Feb 23 that an attack on its Australian and New Zealand websites the previous day was not an attempt at intrusion.

Thursday morning both sites were displaying a message bearing the name BL4F a and a message declaring that "insecurity is a worldwide matter" and claiming that the site was defaced "to point out our f**kouts to every kiddo out there." Messages added to the site appeared to be targeted more at other hacking groups, particularly one called Hackweiser, than the vendor itself.

John Ryan, corporate general affairs manager for Toshiba Australia, says the company regrets any inconvenience to customers "and will be taking further steps to prevent this occurrence in the future. It is unfortunate that an individual or group of individuals are involved in this kind of illegal activity."
