Lucent Technologies Inc. has been awarded a multimillion [m] dollar broadband access network expansion project by a Chinese telecommunications company, Lucent announced Monday.
Under the contract, Lucent will supply Stinger DSL (digital subscriber line) access concentrators to Guangzhou Telecom for the city of Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province in southern China. The contract represents Lucent's first sale of Stinger products in China, the company said in a release.
The Stinger systems will be deployed in 60 locations, and they will make it possible for Guangzhou Telecom to provide high-speed Internet access and other broadband services. Guangzhou Telecom is deploying Lucent's ultra high-density Stinger FS and smaller-capacity Stinger LS DSL access concentrators.
The Stinger FS, which supports up to 2,016 ports in a single rack, is one of the densest DSLAMs (DSL access multiplexor) available. The Stinger LS, announced in September, is a smaller capacity version of the Stinger FS aimed at serving apartment buildings and smaller central offices.
