Internet services company Icon Medialab Asia has bought Sydney e-business and multimedia developer Vitascope. Goran Malm, CEO of Icon, said the acquisition will expand the range of services his company is able to offer. "We aim to provide a complete range of e-business solutions to meet the specific needs of large Australian enterprises and those multinational companies that have been serviced by Icon Medialab in other countries," he said. Late last year Icon bought Victorian e-business developer Fluid Digital.
LSI Logic has set up an office in Sydney to support its channel commitments. "Having a local office will enable LSI to drive demand generation and recognition of our brand in the region," noted Steven Bragg, head of the new Australian operation.
Australian construction company Clough Engineering has joined forces with Canadian satellite communications company Stratos Global to offer remote communications facilities to the oil and gas, mining, and defence industries in Australia and South-East Asia. Under the terms of the partnership Clough will design and install custom-built communications infrastructure while Stratos will provide its satellite earth station, hubbing and associated services.
Ten industry groups have joined forces in the newly-formed Information Communications and Telecommunications Alliance with the aim of allowing the industry to have a say in Australia's information policy directions. The groups involved are:

Australian Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association;Australian Information Industry Association;Australian Interactive Multimedia Industry Association;Australian Telecommunications User Group;Internet Industry Association;Internet Society of Australia;Service Providers Action Network; andSoftware Engineering Australia.
