SecureNet wins Telstra backing for trust centreListed online security specialist SecureNet has won the support of Telstra for the establishment of SecureNet's Australian Trust Centre within the Telstra network. A spokesman said the centre will enable corporate and government clients to outsource their online trust and security solution needs for business transactions.

Gerry Sutton, executive director of emerging business at Telstra, said the alliance will enable Telstra to pursue opportunities for the provision of secure transaction services in both the government and private sectors, especially where the highest levels of trust are required. "To date the cost to businesses of providing a high standard of transaction security themselves has been one of the major impediments to uptake of e-commerce applications within Australia," Sutton explained.

For SecureNet, the alliance represents a chance to increase its client base in Australia and to set its sights on the Asian market. "Our experience in Asia has reinforced our view that a specialised trust centre, incorporating the latest technology and services, is a far more cost-effective and less risky approach for those wanting to provide secure online business applications than doing it themselves," explained Geoffrey Ross, managing director of SecureNet.

The trust centre will offer customer identification, permission management and transaction authentication with a range of support services, Ross added.
