Communications still the ASP killer app

Communications, financial/accounting and e-commerce services, continue to be the most popular types of applications being accessed from application service providers (ASPs), according to a recent study from Zona Research. Commissioned by the ASP Industry Consortium, the survey spoke to senior executives and IT managers in the US who are either using ASP services or plan to do so within the next 12 months.

Communications - including email, messaging, and groupware - are being used by 34 per cent of those currently accessing an ASP. The next most popular use of ASPs were for financial and accounting applications (25 per cent ), e-commerce (21 per cent ) customer service or customer relationship management (19 per cent ), education and training (18 per cent ), human resources (13 per cent ), project management (10 per cent ) and sales force automation (nine per cent ).
