Computer Associates International Inc. (CA) on Friday announced it will provide support for IBM Corp.'s new operating system, z/OS, on CA zSeries mainframe machines.
CA will offer systems, performance, operations, network and resource management software to assist with making the IBM operating system run smoothly, said Nancy Newfield, CA's divisional vice president of marketing for the enterprise server solutions group. In addition, support will be offered in the areas of security, storage, online transformation and integration, portal and knowledge management, and predictive analysis and visualization.
The z/OS is a make over of the OS/390 operating system, which ran on the IBM's S/390. The eServer Z900 Series machines are designed for use as application servers for Web sites, and the product family is seen by IBM as key to keep customers from migrating to big Unix machines from Sun Microsystems Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Co. IBM announced the availability of the new z/OS on Monday. CA has offered management support each time IBM has upgraded or developed a new operating system, Newfield said. CA continues to offer support for existing IBM operating systems, she said.
CA recently announced that IBM Global Services is adding more than 180 CA products for z/OS and OS/390 for worldwide distribution through its SystemPac software package, which assists with creating or replacing the operating systems.
