AT&T Wireless Group Inc. has signed a five-year deal with Openet Telecom Ltd. to deploy the Dublin, Ireland company's FusionWorks billing mediation system. FusionWorks is a Unix-based server system that gathers user information across multiple networks for billing, customer care, data warehousing and fraud management applications. AT&T is deploying seven FusionWorks servers throughout its wireless network.
The servers connect to wireless and wire-line application gateways on the network to monitor data and voice traffic. Openet says it is one of only a few companies that can support General Packet Radio Service, a 3G wireless technology which was required to win the contract.
