Health exchange signs first fund user

The Australian Health Management Group (AHMG) has signed a three-year contract to use the recently launched online health industry exchange, Thelma.

The health insurer will use the exchange to process private patient eligibility checks and hospital claims.

ICSGlobal set up the hub and predicts Thelma will process around 74 million hospital and medical transactions on an annualised basis, or 35 per cent of the market within 18 months.

A proof of concept for Thelma went live last October. Phase one of Thelma offers hospitals and private health insurers the ability to check patient eligibility for private healthcare and to process hospital and inpatient medical claims in a secure, real-time environment.

Bryce Fraser, group general manager of AHMG said, "Health insurers could do so much more for their members with the right information. For example, an insurer in many cases doesn't know that a member has been admitted to hospital until after they have been discharged. Thelma will give us this information in real-time. Then, under our Carelink program, we can offer our members the chance to get home quicker into an environment in which they more comfortable."
