IBM to resell Software AG products

IBM inked an agreement with software developer Software AG to resell Software AG's e-business applications and services, the companies said Monday.

Central to the deal is Software AG's Tamino XML (Extensible Markup Language) Database for integrating and accessing enterprise data directly in XML native format. IBM will resell Tamino, and the two companies said they are working together on closely bundling Tamino and IBM's WebSphere Application Server.

IBM's DB2 Universal Database product competes with Tamino. An IBM representative could not immediately be reached for comment.

Software AG recently announced plans to extend Tamino beyond its core database functionality. Two previously standalone products, middleware add-on X-Bridge and development application X-Studio, are being added to Tamino. The newly renamed Tamino X-Bridge and Tamino X-Studio are included in this agreement, Software AG said. Application integration product EntireX is also included.

Tamino support for IBM's OS/390 mainframe operating system and AIX Unix operating system has been added to the application, Software AG said. A Software AG spokeswoman said the new operating system support will be in the Tamino update shipping at the end of May.
